The FAO-Hungarian Government Scholarship Program goal is to give young professionals from eligible countries the opportunity to pursue advanced studies in agriculture.
The FAO-Hungarian Government Scholarship Program 2025-2026 is a joint project of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Hungarian government.
This initiative promotes agricultural capacity building to enhance global food security, sustainable development, and environmental management. The Hungarian government has covered all expenditures under the agreement with FAO since 2007.
The program provides completely financed scholarships for Master of Science degree courses in Aquaculture and Animal Husbandry Engineering, which are taught in English.

Benefits of FAO Hungarian Government Masters Scholarship
The scholarship will cover:
- application and tuition fees throughout the study period with basic books and notes;
- dormitory accommodation;
- subsistence costs;
- health insurance.
According to the 2007 agreement between FAO and Hungary, the Hungarian government pays for all of the costs listed above.
The scholarship only covers student expenses, family members are not sponsored under this program.
Requirements for FAO Hungarian Government Masters Scholarship
- Be citizens and residents of one of the listed eligible countries.
- Have excellent academic achievements.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency for courses taught in English.
- Show strong motivation for pursuing the program.
- Be in good health.
- Preferably be under the age of 30.
Selection Process
The selection process as described below applies to scholarships beginning in September 2025.
Student selection will take place in two phases:
Phase 1: FAO will pre-screen individuals and submit applications to Hungary’s Ministry of Agriculture, which will then deliver them to the respective university chosen by the applicants. Students can only submit COMPLETE dossiers. Incomplete dossiers will not be evaluated. Files without a name will not be handled.
Phase 2: Selected candidates may be required to take a written or oral English examination as part of the admissions process. The partnering university will conduct an additional selection procedure and notify each successful candidate. The universities will be solely responsible for student selection, with no assistance from FAO. The ministry will also notify selected students.
Candidates will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:
- Citizenship and residency of one of the eligible countries
- Excellent school achievements
- English language proficiency (for courses taught in English)
- Motivation
- Good health
- Age (candidates under 30 are preferred)
Application Documents
- Completed application form.
- Course description and application procedure document (as applicable).
- Any other documents required by the selected University or FAO.
