Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) International Youth Fellowship 2025

This is to inform individual that AKFC is inviting the person who can demonstrate commitment to international development and are ready to make a distinct change to the world.

The International Youth Fellowship Program provides a unique opportunity for recent graduates and early-career professionals in Canada to add a global dimension to their careers. Fellows gain practical international development experience through intense pre-departure training and an overseas placement. Their placements help local institutions carry out programs that improve the quality of life in the areas they serve.

Fellows will be assigned to one of three streams: International Development Management (IDM), International Microfinance and Microenterprise (IMM), and Young Professionals in Media (YPM). IDM Fellows are often placed with groups working in health and education, IMM Fellows with microfinance or market development, and YPM Fellows with Nation Media Group, East Africa’s main media outlet.

Each Fellow spends eight months in Africa or Asia working with Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) agencies and partners, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious international development organizations.

Before leaving for oversea placement, Fellows undergo a three-week pre-departure training program in Ottawa that provides a solid foundation in the skills and knowledge needed to contribute effectively to their host organizations. Former Fellows design the pre-departure training, which is led by renowned international development experts from Canada and overseas, including many Fellowship alumni.

AKFC pays the bulk of the costs associated with living and working overseas including airfare, lodging, vaccinations, health insurance, and a modest stipend to support living expenses. Successful candidates must make a one-time contribution of CAD $1,000 to cover the costs of the Fellowship.
